Problem/Motivation

7.x-1.3 is the last Drupal 7 release of Zeitgeist. There has never been a release for Drupal 8 or later.

Drupal has changed enough since version 8 that a port would be a redesign rather than an upgrade: search is pluggable, blocks are plugins, and caching and rendering work differently. Whether that is worth doing depends on whether anyone still needs what Zeitgeist does.

Proposed resolution

If you run Zeitgeist, please comment with:

  • which features you use: the latest and top searches blocks, the report, the Views integration;
  • whether you need them on a current Drupal version, or have found you no longer do;
  • anything the Drupal 7 version could not do that you would need.

The 7.x-1.3 release points administrators to this issue after the update, and on the Zeitgeist settings and report pages.

Remaining tasks

  • Collect feedback.
  • Decide whether to port.
