I've manually tried to submit the sitemap.xml url to google, and it says the following:

Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.

Without being able to see your actual sitemap.xml I can't really help further. Could you possibly post a link to it in this issue?

I seem to be having the issue, here is the link: http://publicmind.in/drupal/sitemap.xml, although I am using the 6.x-1.2 version.

I have upgraded to the 2.x branch and it seems to be working fine for me at least.

Seems that upgrading to the 2.x branch does the trick, closing until proven otherwise :)
