Thank's for developing this module. I recently added workflow to my existing site, and am attempting to get the current content passed through the workflow. All of the content was in the "Published state." Which, if my understanding is correct is required prior to using a Workflow.
I installed "Workflow post-install", and moved all of the content into the workflow first state - called "Draft". I verified that indeed the content was moved to the workflow state of "Draft" using Views. Everything is great!
When I login as a user with permission (role) to view and edit posts that are in the state of "Draft", the edit button does not show up and the user cannot edit the content. The workflow button shows up and the user can change the workflow state per the workflow design.
My question is two-fold - First - Did I do something wrong? Your tool did as it was supposed to do. The node is in the right state, the workflow tab is available to the user, but the user can't edit the node.
Second - How do the workflow permissions coexist with the permissions set in the Permissions screen. (Administer>User management>Permissions). I assume that content that is published and that is under a workflow process uses the workflow access permissions and not the permissions that are granted in the User management area.
I'd appreciate any insights into fixing this.

rdeboerHi msellers... I don't think you did anything wrong... You may not have done enough....
The interaction between the permissions set on the Administer>>User management>>Permissions page and the Workflow permissions is somewhat convoluted. It is explained in some detail here: http://drupal.org/node/408816 (see the Appendix on that page).
If your objective is to create a publication workflow using the Workflow module, then this tutorial may help.
In fact, I think point 8 of the tutorial may have the answer to your second question:

msellers commentedThanks RdeBoer...I read and followed the tutorials attempting to integrate everything into our specific workflow requirements. I am impressed with the functionality supplied by Module Grants and Revisioning modules. I was able to replace a couple of Views that I was using with tabs provided by these modules.
Unfortunately, the problem continues to exist with the existing content. There must continue to be permissions that are at odds. When I view the My Contents tab (provided by Module Grants), the article is shown under the Editable tab. The listing is as below:
I select the revision by clicking on the title "Brushing"
I get the Revisions of Brushing page. I click on the article date and get a view-only version of the article. Something is keeping it in a read-only state!
My only work-around at this point is to recreate each article starting from scratch and then cut-and-paste the contents. With over 200 articles this is doable, but I would like to avoid this if at all possible. Any hints or further ideas. Is there something that I can look at in the database to get a better understanding of what is at odds in the permissions area. Note that everything works perfectly with the workflow if I start an article from scratch.

rdeboerHi Mark,
One thing you could do to get a better handle on which module is/isn't granting access to various pieces of content when viewing/editing etc is to uncomment a couple of debug lines in the /sites/all/modules/module_grants/module_grants.module.
In the file
module_grants.modulethere are 2 lines starting withSimply remove the leading slashes from these 2 lines.
Then click around your site as per usual and see what the debug messages tell you. In interpreting these messages note, that access codes greater than zero mean "access granted", while 'access=0' means "access denied".

msellers commentedHi Rik...Thanks so much for your help. Everything is working now! Problem is, I'm not sure what I did to fix it. I followed your suggestions above and started testing the workflow and it was functioning properly. Anyway, your help was great and I learned alot about other modules that are very helpful.
