Using Workflow 7x.2.4

By rule I am changing ownership (author) of a workflow-enabled node type via a referenced field upon creation and want workflow to allow the new author to have access to the workflow controls. Both the creator and the author being assigned by rule have the same role. I am allowing the role to participate in workflows. I am also allowing the role to see workflow history tab in field management on the content type. The rule assigns authorship to the referenced user and the workflow is updated by the creator to the next transition.

My issue is that I am only allowing the author to edit the transitions, and both users see the workflow controls and can change the workflow transitions, in spite of the fact that the Author is the only one authorized. What I want is for the creator to see the workflow history on the tab, but the Author assigned by rule to have the workflow editing capability.

Can this be done or am I missing something?

Any help would be appreciated.

Both users have the same roles.
Did you try the State Transitions Tab under /admin/config/workflow/workflow/manage/MY_WORKFLOW/transitions ?

There you should add more transitions for Author, then for the normal role.
Also, try latest dev.
