I'm importing some posts from a wordpress site which as inline images in almost every post. If i open the exported xml file from the wordpress site a post contains markup like this: <a href="http://www.*******/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/IMG_0348-e1282065989782.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-416" title="Före" src="http://www.*******se/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/IMG_0348-e1282065989782-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a> <a href="http://www.*******.se/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/IMG_0354-e1282066051345.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-417" title="Efter" src="http://www.*******.se/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/IMG_0354-e1282066051345-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a>

and after the import i get markup like this in the wysiwyg editor
<p>&nbsp;<a href="/sites/all/files/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/IMG_3385_0.jpg"><span class="media-image alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-881 media-element file-media-large" title="Bild 5" data-thmr="thmr_36" data-file_info="%7B%22type%22:%22media%22,%22view_mode%22:%22media_large%22,%22fid%22:%221615%22%7D"><img class="file-icon" title="image/jpeg" src="/modules/file/icons/image-x-generic.png" alt="" data-thmr="thmr_37" /> </span></a><a type="image/jpeg; length=7563" href="http://pigment.dev/sites/all/files/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/IMG_3385-150x150_0.jpg" data-thmr="thmr_38">IMG_3385-150x150_0.jpg</a>&nbsp;</p>

The file isn't rendering as a image but instead as a link. Has anyone stumbled across this issue?

Fixed it by importing the posts as full html.

I had a similar issue, but I did not want full html, so instead i added img to the allowed filter tags in the configuration text formats
