Please add Portuguese(pt) language to localize.drupal.org
We have the Portuguese from Portugal (pt-pt) and Portuguese from Brazil (pt-br) but we want to join all the Portuguese translations in one (pt). The government in all the countries that speak Portuguese in the world have a new standard orthographic agreement. Drupal can be the first CMS with only one portuguese translation, based in the new agreement.

gábor hojtsyI'd need the agreement of both teams so we can shut them down then. I'd think that this sounds highly unlikely. While governments can impose rules, people got used to certain ways to write things and these things are not easily changed. Anyway, if both maintainers of the existing teams would agree, then they are removed and this new one is added. Otherwise, this is a no-go.

gábor hojtsyLooks like this is postponed until more interest appears. There is currently no support for maintaining forks of languages, so that you could translate some of the items differently in certain forks but have mostly the same translation, so that complicates setting this up quite a bit.

mcduarte2000 commentedAs the admin of pt-pt, I oppose this. As things are, currently, users have 2 choices of Portuguese, which is correct as there are many differences in terms of Portuguese spoken in Portugal and in Brazil.
We will for change the way the translation is written when the agreement starts to be effective, but for sure, we will not use the same words and there is no agreement that can make them be used, as this is clearly a cultural option. Merging the 2 language version would led us to "language wars" across the Atlantic, which doesn't make sense at all.
