The language switch in Drupal (part of locale module) allows you to switch to a translated version of a node. If a translation is not available it will stay on the current node.
Would it be possible to create a switch for the Drupal Handbook, similar to the language switch, but based on Drupal version instead of language? So I'm browsing the Handbook viewing 6.x, and on a certain page I can switch to 5.x.
I was thinking about this while browsing the i18n pages in the handbook. A lot is available for 5.x, much less for 6.x. And while browsing the 6.x pages the 5.x pages are not easily accessible.
A similar idea might be to use tabs like api.drupal.org.

add1sun commentedYes, I was thinking the same thing last week. We have been talking about ideas for versions and how to display them in the redesign group as part of the larger Rethinking Documentation thread. I'm going to move this to the webmaster redesign queue and postpone until we see where the redesign goes. Feel free to hop over there to talk about the big picture of docs. We will work out specific implementation ideas later.

drummNot really part of the redesign, and I don't see us unifying all these places any time soon.
