juan_g commentedThere is another list of abandoned projects in descending number of open issues: Projects by Abandoned Projects (they are reassigned to the fake user Abandoned Projects). All these seem to have /project/... URLs, not /sandbox/...
avpadernoIf the search page for modules would allow to filter by those fields, then it would be perfect.
The Abandoned Project user was used when there was not a field for the maintenance status, and not all the abandoned projects are assigned to that user, now. As that user account was used when sandbox projects were not possible, none of those abandoned projects use a "/sandbox/" URL.

pasqualleI know I saw that link (Dealing with abandoned projects) somewhere. There it is, on the fake user profile page, so that link should be on the project page, next to the project maintenance status. #1418718: Add buttons to Maintenance status to encourage new maintainers to sign up
thanks @juan_g
Comment #4
pasqualledo we have a duplicate feature request issue for the maintenance status filter?

pasqualle#950972: Use Maintenance & Development status on project browsing pages
Comment #6
pasqualleThe #950972 issue was closed as won't fix. Therefore this support request is open again..
avpadernoIf all the abandoned project would be marked unsupported, then this link would help. It allows to search for abandoned projects, as requested.
pasquallehmm, I am a bit confused now. Issue #950972 was about adding these 2 filters to the modules page, and the issue was "won't fix"-ed. And as I see these filters are already added to the modules page.
But anyway this support request is solved, as abandoned project means the maintainer marked the project as Maintenance status = unsupported. And the filter on the modules page seems to work with this option also..

avpadernoIt's a guess: The other issue is talking about exposing them as facets, which I take is referring to the part listed under or filter by in https://www.drupal.org/search/site/metatags?f%5B0%5D=ss_meta_type%3Amodule. In that case, maybe Maintenance status shown on top of the search result is not considered a facet.
