Hi
Im going to create a new Drupal website and I really would like to use D6 instead of D5. Since now I always used the Links Package Module (http://drupal.org/project/links) to create external links but this is not ported to D6 yet. Therefore, I stumbled over the Web links module and it seems to fit my needs very well (based on the description). Nevertheless, could you shortly explain the difference?
Thanks

nancydruI have never used that package, so I am unqualified to this, but you are right, this comparison is needed; there's even a section of the handbooks for doing such comparisons.

aitala commentedAs far as I understand it, the Links package includes an older(?) version of the Weblinks module as a 'submodule'. The Links package tries to do sitewide link management, which is helpful, but has some functionality which is currently not enabled.
I moved to the Links package because, for some reason, I could get that 'weblink' functionality working, but not the actual Weblink module. I had the disappearing links/category issue.
It would be nice if the two packages had some sort of interoperability or migration from one to another. I got tired of Weblinks wiping out all my data entry - I have gotten all of my links entered into the Links package and really don't want to redo it should I want to return to Weblinks.

nancydruI was reading the Links project page. I agree that using their API might be useful and may be something we look at down the road.
Weblinks is now very stable. However, I fully understand not wanting to re-enter all the data.

nancydruA comparison page has been started. If someone has experience with the Links package and would like to help with the comparison, please let me know and I'll give you a link to it.

summit commentedHi Nancy, yes I have experience with the links package. All my weblinks until now are created through the weblinks nodetype from the links package. So yes tell me the link please.
greetings,
Martijn
