hi
i would like to see the ability to add external links as well to the bookmarks module. if i understand correctly currently it is only possible to add nodes to "my bookmarks" and not external links.
i would like to see an options to enhance this with something like:
http://fqdn/bookmarks/add/www.google.com (where fqdn =! www.google.com :-) )
any takers?

gábor hojtsyYesterday, or the day before I had some discussion with Alastair (the original author of the bookmarks module) on possible improvements. Now the CVS version in Drupal 4.3 compatible, so it works... I still was unable to get the "add to bookmarks" link appear in the bookmarks box (which is dependant on a $node global variable, which is probably not supported anymore in Drupal, and I was unable to find a replacement).
Anyway, first I thought about adding more internal bookmarking capabilities (I would definitely want to bookmark my most often use admin pages and other non-node stuff). Also I would like to add the possibility to set the bookmark name for any bookmark. This might also be a good time to add external bookmarking capabilities.
But if we go on this way, the automatic node title following capabilty will be lost (the node title will be stored at bookmark addition time, but if the node title changes it will not be changed in the bookmark). This is because the node table will not be related to the bookmarks anymore (given that we need to handle bookmarks in a more general way: [url, title]).
Any comments on this, before I start to implement something which people will dislike? :)

gábor hojtsyAs the weblink module improved significantly since we last discussed this issue, and you would probably wish to use some of the monitoring features of external bookmarks, and other neat stuff, this should be a feature request for the weblink module...

gábor hojtsyThis is now supported as a joint feature of bookmarks.module and weblink.module. Actually bookmarks.module itself can handle external bookmarks, but you can easily import links from the weblink taxonomy to your bookmarks list.
