My 1st problem was that non-admin users couldn't access the files I'd uploaded. I worked out they had to be in another subdirectory for access by other roles (why?). So I tried to move the files by drag and drop. The delete operation failed so now I have two copies. I could delete them by FTP but will that leave bad datasbe entries for those files?

There's a button for adding all files to the database, but there's no button to remove all files from the database.

In the log I see:
Permission denied in ..modules/webfm/webfm_file.inc on line 176 or:

unlink(files/myfiles/xxxx.pdf) [function.unlink]: Permission denied in ..../public_html/includes/file.inc on line 469.

I set permissions on the folders to 777 in cpanel but that didn't help.

I removed the files from the datasbe one by one and deleted the original folder tree by FTP.

Now when I log in as another user I can see the correct folder tree... twice! The same folder tree is listed in two boxes on the right hand side. hmm.. how can I fix that?

Multiple trees are permitted for users with multiple roles that each have webfm access. Only one should appear if two or more roles have the same root directory. Can you send a screenshot?

Here's a screenshot. I only see one tree when I log on as admin or a plain authenticated user. But if I log on as a user with a role I've called 'editors' then I see two trees. Is it because there's a Webfm role called 'editors' and also a drupal user role called 'editors'?

I stil have the problem that webfm won't let me change filenames or delete an empty folder. I can do it in FTP - I set file premissions to 777 for testing. But WebFM says

Permission denied in /home/rutlandb/public_html/modules/webfm/webfm_file.inc on line 74. (for a rename)
Permission denied in /home/rutlandb/public_html/modules/webfm/webfm_file.inc on line 176. (for an rmdir)

In webfm file permissions I've ticked everything except 'public download'

Ahh, ok.. the problem must be that I'm uploading all my files by FTP, and WebFM doen't know how to let me modify them. If I upload one file from the Webfm interface I can rename or delete it ok. But I can't do that as I have hundreds of files.

As you mentioned above, there is a method to add multiple files to the database via the upper right icons but no equivalent for removal. If you have made a hash of things and want to start clean there is way to remove corrupted webfm_file records (records for files that don't exist) via the 'WebFM debug' fieldset in settings. This feature is only available to #1 user. Use with caution!!!

I'm actually having the exact same issue with the 'double directory tree' described above... Any luck with a solution?

Attached is a screenshot.

My setup:
- I have the anonymous user role as having read access to webfm in a specified directory.
- I have another role (the role to administer that directory for webfm) set up with its root as the same directory.

If I browse as the anonymous user, I see only one tree.
If I browse as user #1, I see only one tree.
If I browse as the role to administer that directory, I see two trees. I'm assuming it's running the tree once for the anon user, and once again for the logged in admin of that directory.

Thoughts?

WebFM administrators don't need the 'access webfm' right checked inside access control. If a role has the 'administer webfm' right then they see everything. Uncheck the 'access webfm' checkbox and all should be well.

I'll consider this a bug for future consideration.

Hmmm - well, I'm having a different experience...

If my WebFM admin role has only 'administer webfm' checked, then going to the folder gives an "Access Denied".

If I check both "administer" and "access" then I get only one tree. (or any combination of admin and anything else)

If I check only "access and upload" then I get two trees.

If I check only "upload" then I get "Access Denied".

BUT - if I am not logged in, and logged in as only 'anonymous' then I get only one tree...

???

Thoughts?
