I ran into a few issues trying to get this to work. First of all it is looking for the jcarousel skin to work yet there is no dependency upon jcarousel to be installed. Then on top of it I still had a scandir() issue. The reason was simple on line 148 of the views_slideshow_jcarousel.module it is looking at the libraries for the /skins directory. This should be pointed at the modules directory or you will have to copy the skins directory out to the libraries folder.
$skin_directory = libraries_get_path('jcarousel') . '/skins'; // <- this needs to point to the modules folder not the libraries folder.
$skins = array();
foreach (scandir($skin_directory) as $dir) {
if ($dir !== '.' && $dir !== '..' && is_dir($skin_directory . '/' . $dir)) {
$skins[$dir] = $dir;
}
}

netw3rker commentedI agree with you on this, however, at the moment the dependency is on the jcarousel library's skins specifically (that library is specifically mentioned as required in order to use this module, so a dependency to that library can be assumed). It would be great if there were a ctools ish way of declaring skins for these components so that the library didn't have to get modified, and other modules could declare skins though. I'm going to slate this problem for 7.x-2.x release feature. If i see a patch for the 6.x version in question, I'm happy to review/apply it.
Thanks!

netw3rker commentedI applied a ctools based method for listing skins to the 7.x-2.x branch. I think this can be closed out now. Thanks for the suggestion!
