Okay, it looks as though this will have to solved from within views. It looks quite unlikely we can solve this with some kind of alter hook from within the views_ajax_get module.

I will keep my eye on the parent issue (and it's related issue).
If nothing is resolved there, and we end up with an incompatibility with Views, then we will have to document this and advise users to apply the patch.
