Help with getting field collection values to display in XML feed

I am trying to export a XML feed of a certain content type on my site. The content type contains a few field collections. When creating the view and adding fields, I chose the fields relating to the field collections from the type of "content" - the type of "field collection item" was not available to choose.

In the preview area/Drupal UI, everything shows up the way I was expecting. The values for the field collections (multiple values) are displaying. However, when I open up the actual XML file that gets created in a browser or a XML editor, each tag corresponding to the field collections are blank.

Can someone point me in the direction for getting the values of field collections to display in XML?
