I think we are closing in on a first release of the Drupal 6 version of this module. Better late than never! As I see it, these issues needs to be resolved in before we release:

* #977882: Socket-connect timeouts are long
* #1107282: Allow retry if socket is "temporarily unavailable"
* #1089878: Make it possible to execute more than one command in one connection.
* #927744: Move server-status code from admin page to an API function

When we are ready and done with a first stable release, it's time to focus on what we want for Drupal 7.
Are there any more issues that definitely needs to go in before it's time for a release party? =)

This looks like an excellent hit-list for me. I think we've got sufficient validation that this is stable now, and we should be find to do a 1.0 release with these under-the-hood improvements.

If so, you should change the statement:

'At the moment, using Varnish to any effect at all requires Drupal 7 or PressFlow.'
