I'm running a site with Domain and I18N already installed. I tried upgrading Variable from 7.x-1.2 > 7.x-2.1, but it breaks my entire site. Basically, I can't even run update.php (it hangs at Overview, does not go to step 3), and I can't enable/disable any modules. I can't save any configuration, nothing.

Reverting back to 1.2 saved the day.

What is the proper upgrade path?

See #1660798: How to update 7.x-1.2 to 7.x-2.0.

  • Clear caches (!!)
  • Replace "variable" folder with new version
  • If you have the i18n module installed, also replace i18n folder with latest version
  • Run update.php

Re-open if this doesn't work.

Ok, the trick was to disable cache BEFORE uploading the 2.1 version.

Same here but disabling cache and clearing it before the copy/paste the new version didn't help!
