Is Userpoints module suitable for buying and selling of goods and services

I'm looking for a lightweight alternative for the community accounting (http://drupal.org/project/mutual_credit) module, in order to create a LETS system or similar, where users can exchange (buy and sell) goods and services by using points.

Is the points module suitable for this? At first sight, it seems more aimed at awarding users for activities on the website, but can it be extended to work as a LETS system or similar?
