Instead of having the current hardcoded points/max_points totals, it would be possible to define new, custom aggregation functions.

Typical, often requested use case: Being able to calculate weekly/monthly totals. Somewhat possible right now, but complicated by using multiple categories.

Maybe this could even be possible through rules (too)?
