Currently the author panel prints (shows) the current points of a user. How would I print (show) max points also?

You can always call the API function (userpoints_get_max_points()) to get that information.

Be aware that the max points are broken by design in Drupal 6 and will lead to wrong results (They are in fact the sum of all positive points a user ever had and *not* the highest amounts of points he ever had).
