Although URO hides fields while editing an account, those fields are visible when viewing the account.

I suspect that this is intentional. If you wish to hide a field, so that only administrators are able to see it - but not the users themselves - then you don't actually need this module. This feature is already built into the profile module (check your "visibility" options when you are defining/editing a profile field).

What the core profile module does NOT allow you to do, is to have a field that *is* visible by the user, but NOT editable. This is required, when you want to keep information about users, which only administrators should be able to change, but which users should be able to see. There are countless examples of when this type of functionality may be needed:

* your site may have different 'membership levels' - so users should be able to see what membership level they are in, but only administrators should be able to change these
* you may wish to manually assign a membership expiry date to every profile - users should be able to see when their membership will expire, but not be able to change it
* you may implement an 'awards list' in your site - ie., users can receive 'awards' - so they should be able to see what awards they've been given, but should not be able to award themselves

And many more.

I hope this helps.

Looking back on what I wrote 4 weeks ago, I'm wondering "What were you thinking?" I believe that I was expecting the "deleted" field -- new since the D5 version -- to be hidden from the View page as well. But you're right: that would duplicate a core feature.

This is not exactly correct, although the option exists to allow only admin to see, this is not what the op was talking about.

The admin only option in the core profile is useless since it also hides it on the register form as well. The op was wanting (same with me) to hide from user but keep it on the register form at sign up. This is what should happen but apparently it was not designed that way.

This sucks too I was hoping this module's hide feature would do the trick, another useless function that makes absolutely no sense. They can see it in view but not on edit.

There are other modules that hide the edit field so this is only a duplicate module. What drupal needs is a hide from view feature.
