badges "unset"

if i manually assign a badge to a user it displays fine. upon editing that user's profile page, just by clicking edit/submit. despite the debug message "* Badges saved. * The changes have been saved." the badge will dissapear and i have to go back to the badges page and save the badge to get it to reappear.
