Hi,
I have been thinking about this for a while and think it could make a really powerful addition to the idea of using Aegir for SaS sites. I have had a degree of success using the sites and platforms linked with ubercart to create some install profile generated preset sites.
What I am suggesting may not be the "right" way do do this in the sense of everything should be in features, built from a drush make file and initialized and configured by an install profile but these new techniques come with learning curves that, while are well worth learning, can slow progress significantly.
I would love for there to be a site product feature that allowed a product to be associated with a site already set up in Aegir. Then when payment is processed, that site is cloned to the users desired domain and they are notified of the new site being setup.
While the approach is different, it would make this process of getting already built sites to an easily re-usable state super quickly without having to purpose build the site for distribution with Aegir.
I would be interested to know if anyone else thinks this may be useful as well as any pros and cons to using a method like this.
Thanks
Gregg
