It would be great, if there would be a button that allows the user to include a footnote (module footnotes). I guess it's pretty simple, as it only needs to surround the text with <fn>...</fn>

This version of TinyMCE is not supported anymore. The issue is closed for this reason.
Please upgrade to a supported version and feel free to reopen the issue on the new version if applicable.
