I am probably doing something wrong.

I import;

AL,AL
AL,AL1
AL,AL2
AL,AL3
B,B
B,B1
B,B2
B,B3
BA,BA
BA,BA1
BA,BA2
BA,BA3

(I actually imported hundreds but this is an example)

What I get is terms called;

AL,AL
AL,AL1
AL,AL2
AL,AL3
B,B
B,B1
B,B2
B,B3
BA,BA
BA,BA1
BA,BA2
BA,BA3

with no hierarchy at all, all of them are children of the root

What I'm looking for is

AL (parent)
AL1 (child)
AL2 (child)
AL3 (child)
B (parent)
B1 (child)
B2 (child)
B3 (child)
BA (parent)
BA1 (child)
BA2 (child)
BA3 (child)

What am I doing wrong?

Any ideas?

Please help

@manoloka, hi; could you please give a few words on how you managed to make this work? I'm interested in doing the same thing, but the module doesn't seem to support importing into the hierarchy...?

Thanks!

Here's what worked for me. Each line has to end in a UNIX line feed character, not a character return (which is what you'll get if you make a text file on a Mac, among other ways.) If you're on a Mac, one easy way to make this conversion's with Tex-Edit, which lets you do LF -> CR on the Quick Cleanup screen with one click.

On the Administer>Categories>Import CSV screen click the button for "Child term names (hierarchical vocabularies only)."

My file looks like this:

Aves, Anseriformes, Anatidae, Anser albifrons
Aves, Anseriformes, Anatidae, Chen caerulescens
Aves, Anseriformes, Anatidae, Chen rossii
Aves, Anseriformes, Anatidae, Branta bernicla
Aves, Anseriformes, Anatidae, Branta hutchinsii
etc...

And I already have an entry for Aves (but I don't know if that's necessary.)
