My old site has custom fields added to a hierarchical vocabulary. Only the 'custom fields' format option allows for custom fields, but it does not address the term and parent ids to maintain the tree format. The 'Taxonomy Manager' format manager does not include the settings for a custom field. How do I accomplish this?

Here are some other UI related problems:)

  • Hierarchical format does not import the descriptions, so a lot of important info can be lost
  • Using Full definition allows sorting by alphabetical, weight, internal order. I am not sure what internal order is since it does not follow the order that the items are displayed by Drupal. Since I was trying to load items in a hierarchy, the import fails because parents are not necessarily preceding their children.
  • If an error occurs during the import of a vocabulary, the form forgets the name of the file it was reading and the user has to select it again.
  • Using Full Term definition and links format, the import generated multiple instances of the first (or last - the order changed at some point) term

I'll add more items to the list if I find them.

I am also getting this error message when importing taxonomies. My site is Drupal7.

Warning: An incompatible module is running.
Memory or compatibility problems have been reported with these modules when under Drupal 6: "taxonomynode", "taxonomy_vtn", "pathauto"
It is advised to increase server and php memory temporary (no problem reported with 256 MB) or to disable these modules manually in modules section. Settings are not lost when you disable a module (and not uninstall it). After import process, you can decrease memory and reactivate modules.

Hi

Thanks for all your comments.

As I just explained in #1386904: SImultaneous import of a hierarchical taxonomy AND custom fields, the module is designed to manage updates of taxonomies, so you can proceed in two times:

  • first, import the tree structure,
  • second, import your terms with custom fields (choose to import in the existing vocabulary in the fourth tab, and 'update' in the fifth tab.

You can proceed the same for export.

If you give me an example of the format you want (csv), I can include it (how to mix a tree and one or more custom fields in one csv line?).
In the medium term, I think to simplify all the formats (in fact, to keep only one for the structure, and another one for fields, standard ones or custom ones), but it implies a new design.

Other remarks:

  • Taxonomy manager does not manage custom fields too.
  • Order of terms: by default, Drupal displays terms by alphabetically, except if weights are defined. Internal order is different: it's the order of term ids, ie order terms have been created and inserted in the database.
  • Anyway, the module can manage any order of lines for import. Children can be imported before parents, they are automatically moved.
  • The fact that the name of the file is not memorized in case of a problem in form is a little issue to be resolved.
  • The main issue with the Drupal 7 version is not in the formats or design (you can update vocabularies), but in the fact that the process is slow because it use only core functions. It's the case especially if you use some external modules and that's why I've added a warning for them. You can do the import process with them, but it's recommended to disable them before process and to reenable them after.

If you give me an extract of your csv file, I can explain issues, if any.

Hey, coming in with my little question.

What's the cvs format to choose if I want to export my custom fields?

I've seen 'custom fields' in the import selection, but I haven't seen it for the export selection.

Also, totally +1 for how to mix a tree and one or more custom fields in one csv line?

Thx alot for the great module guys, see ya later

Hi,

A field export will be added in the next release, in few days (but only for first value of fields).

but only for first value of fields

What do you mean by that?

Hi,

I release 7.x-5.9 with export by tid and export of fields.

Currently, only first value of multiple values fields are exported (a field can have more than one value: when you create a field, you can choose the maximum number of values users can enter for this field, for example to attach multiple images, or multiple related terms).

7.x-5.x-dev has got an export format that allows import/export of all values of all fields. It's in dev, because there is a problem to import an undefined number of values: how to represent variable multivalued fields in a simple way that a spreadsheet can use or create (Microsoft Excel doesn't respect the CSV standard for them)?
Currenlty, the module sets the max number of values to the max used by terms to be exported. This CSV format is not stable, because it depends on terms.

Sincerely,
