salvisYou certainly do need to run cron, otherwise nothing gets sent.
Check admin/config/subscriptions to see whether there are items in the queue and do enable watchdog logging.
causalloop commentedNothing is in the queue and watchdog is turned on.
When I FIRST set this up, I had forgotten to install php-mail and it would give me an error message (not a very descriptive one, but an error none the less..). After I installed it and the phpmailer module and configured it, I stopped getting that message. Phpmail seems to have no issues, it just sort of works. Test messages go through, etc. I'm stumped. Is there something I should have installed in ubuntu that maybe I missed?
salvisI'm surprised that you need to install anything besides LAMP, Drupal, and Subscriptions.
If you need phpmailer module and php-mail (whatever that is...), then you have a non-standard installation that I've never seen.
Have you actually subscribed to something, and then created content that triggers that subscription?
Please describe in detail what you did since installing Subscriptions, and what you expected to happen in return.
causalloop commentedMostly I'm just interested in forum subscriptions. So, I have some test users who's email all get forwarded to the same place, so I created some test forums and had the test users all replying to the same message, expecting to get email notifications on new posts.
I didn't use the LAMP package, but all the components are there, Mysql, php/perl, apache2 etc.
I don't think what I'm trying to do is THAT weird... right?
salvisIf you need phpmailer module then it is weird: A LAMP installation, such as you find it on every server of every hosting provider out there (unless it's Windows=WAMP), can send mail out of the box, without phpmailer module.
You did not mention creating subscriptions...
causalloop commentedI'm not sure what you want to know about the subscriptions, I've created them, and I can see them in the user profiles. Are you saying that subscriptions doesn't require a mail program? Just so I'm not getting confused, phpmailer is the drupal module and php-mail being the mail module for linux (not a guru here).
causalloop commentedinteresting to note, I disabled all the mail modules and the result was the same. Which in my mind I would think things would be getting stuck in the queue, but unless I'm reading it wrong: "There are 0 active and 0 suspended items in the queue."
causalloop commentedAlso noticed in the module:
Line 344
There's a lot thats commented out that isn't working yet? Is this perhaps just a D7 issue?
salvisWe're turning in circles here. You're being too casual for using ALPHA/BETA versions.
Please wait with using Subscriptions for Drupal 7 until version 7.x-1.0 is released.
causalloop commentedits not like i have much of a choice... I also mentioned in the first post what version I was using.
salvisPlease don't think I'm reproaching you. That's not the case.
I just don't think we can work together effectively on a module that is not stable yet.

Blanc_Sanglier1452 commentedThis conversation was quite a while ago, but it seems the closest rather than opening a new question.
I have been wishing to set up a subscription to the forum.
I am also allowing subscriptions to contents so that in an extra tab the users can pick and choose which section of the forum they wish to subscribe to. Of course, choosing 'forum' on the other tab overrides these (or seems to) which is fine.
My issue is the frequency which the emails are being sent.
I have removed the 'as soon as possible' as it seems to depend on a Cron run anyway, so have the following in my settings:
1 hour
3 hours
Daily
Weekly (added this myself - Weekly|604800)
The thing is, to test this I created one to receive emails once per hour, and another once per day.
I have cron running every hour.
So I gave it over an hour after creating a new post in the forum, but did not receive an email.
So I ran Cron, but BOTH accounts received their email.
I am sorry, but am not a web developer so although I can be intuitive and make changes, I have a hard time troubleshooting details myself.
Thank you for any help that can be offered.
salvisThank you for looking for a pre-existing issue, but please don't be afraid to open a new issue if you don't find any reasonably recent one.
This thread has been dead for 7 years and was based on a now obsolete version of Subscriptions. No one has any interest in alpha3 anymore, and I sure hope you're not using that version.
If you are really sure that the same problem still exists, that the maintainer was wrong in closing the thread, and you're using the current release (or even better, you've checked out the current -dev release), then set the Version accordingly and change the Status to "Active". ("Closed" issues are not visible, unless someone specifically searches for them.) But let alpha, beta, and prior-major-version issues rest in peace.
So, please open a new issue for this.
