Initial release of Sphinx search API? / Current status / What needs testing ...a.k.a. "Are we there yet?"

Please let people know when there is a stable(ish) version available.

It would be nice to log any changes/progress here whenever (if) you have time and ask us to test specific things for you in order to help this move forward. For example you can inform people when you've made significant changes and they should grab a latest copy from git. If you do, I'll be uploading updated tarballs for those that want to help but don't speak git ...if that's ok with you(?).
