I know it's not supported. But if anyone has an original, non-modified zip/tar, can you please post? It'd be greatly appreciated.

See attached. Up to date CVS checkout of 5--2. We currently don't have the bandwidth to update 5--2 with the latest changes in the Drupal 6 branch -- patches of backported functionality/fixes are certainly welcome though.
