Hi, awesome theme you have there! I was just wondering if the css files could be merged into one as opposed to 4 or so. I understand how complex this theme's css but perhaps at the end of dev they could be merged for performance reasons?

Thanks! You should turn on "Optimize CSS files" (bottom of admin/settings/performance) when you are finished with development for EVERY Drupal site. This will aggregate and compress all the CSS files (theme and module) into as few files as possible, i.e. one per media type. This takes care of any performance issues, and lets us developers use as many files as we want. :)

You are welcome. I have the "optimize css files" selected already. I am very glad drupal has a easy solution because personally I like the way you have the css files. I am using yslow! to optimize page load times [the big issues are lack of CDN and adserver which I am fixing] and I was also wondering if there is any merit to combining the css background images in a sprite as yslow suggested it.

Thank you very much for your lightning fast response time. When I need a theme developed I think I know where to look first :).

No problem.

Most of Sky's images are grouped into 2 sprites. Sometimes sprites just aren't possible (tiling/repeating backgrounds and such). I wouldn't take YSlow too literally, unless you are working on a really huge site, with lots of traffic. :)

Thank you again fro your prompt answer. I had a hunch you had it all figured out, but I'm a subscriber to the Socratic method of learning. The reason for the early optimizations is that I wish to avoid a repeat of what happened at my former boss's site which had major scaling issues when he did not prepare for a surge in traffic [it was 4.7 million uniques monthly and rising to sometimes 25 million a month].

Again thank you for your attention and I will give you first look when my company is ready to have a custom theme developed. Cheers :)
