What exactly does "active" mean? [#1513614]

I have 5 ads in an ad group and that block is set to show 3 at a time. On 3 of them, I did not set any active dates, and they are published, so of course they show.

On the other two, they are both published, one with active dates of 4/3/12 through 5/3/12 and the other with active dates of 5/3/12 through 6/3/12. Yet they both show.

Of course, if I unpublish the second ad, it doesn't appear. But then, what is the point of "active?" Shouldn't the second ad not appear until 5/3/12?

The ad should be unpublished, it will automatically show up on Active date.

I've re-opened this because I think 'active' is overused in the user interface at admin/content/simpleads. I've filtered ads by Status=Inactive and Status shows Expired, whereas the Active column shows "Active"; this seems to contradict the filter setting.

If I edit the ad, the "This ad is active" checkbox is unchecked, presumably meaning the ad is not active, despite the view listing text saying "Active"

I wonder if the Status filter should read Expired instead of Inactive, and/or whether the ad status should be set to Inactive when the ad is expired.

I agree with Jonathan_hunt. This is a little confusing and trying to explain this to other web admins or even clients will be a pain. There should be a clear distinction between Active, Inactive, and Expired.
