I am using forum_access and the HEAD version of simple_access (5.x compatible). However, if I make a forum private and then install simple_access, all the private forum posts become visible to an unauthorized user.

This is fixed now, If you don't select any groups simple access doesn't set up any public access but leaves it to the system to do this.
