I have tried uploading the latest version to /modules/ and sites/all/modules but in either case the module doesn't show up on the modules list. The drupal 5.1 installation is very new and has not been modified much. I have installed the gallery module and other modules and they automatically show up on the list.

can anyone give me a hint on what to do?

Sorry, you need to grap the latest 5.x from CVS or get it from http://www.yaml-fuer-drupal.de/de/download

Sections should be installed in sites/all/modules folder. But don't use the HEAD version... this is an outdated 4.7.x
