Typing backslash in the search field is causing an error message:

An AJAX HTTP error occurred.
HTTP Result Code: 404
Debugging information follows.
Path: .../search_api_autocomplete/search_api_views_.../-
StatusText: Not Found
ResponseText:
404 Not Found
Not Found
The requested URL .../search_api_autocomplete/search_api_views_.../-/\ was not found on this server.

Other textual information entered in the field works ok (not sure about other special symbols though, if there may be similar autocomplete sensitivity to them).

I could not reproduce this problem, for me it works fine. Have you tried with the latest dev version? What Drupal version are you using, maybe an older one?

almc’s picture

I'm using Drupal 7.23 and the current production versions of Search API and Autocomplete modules. Ok, will try the dev version as well.

It might also be an error of your web server, I guess? There were some problems before, with duplicated slashes. Are you using Apache, or something more exotic?

I've tested now Autocomplete 7.x-1.x-dev with Search API 7.x-1.9 on fresh installation of Drupal 7.24, and hit the same issue. Although "Minimum length of keywords for autocompletion" works for autocomplete in this configuration, so when I have it equaling 3 and typing \\\ I'm getting the same AJAX issue ... I've done this testing with Apache 2.x on Windows. (I've also done this testing for the out-of-the-box index "Default node index")

Sorry, I still can't reproduce it.
Unless someone else reports here with the same problem, I'd say it's some problem with your specific setup, maybe the webserver. I can't really help you in either case, someone else would have to debug this and tell me what (if anything) I could change to fix this.

almc’s picture

Ok, I'll try to collect more information on the issue, and would try to trace/debug its occurrence, although it may include many pieces of code and configuration ...
I'm also using Solr 4.5 with the patched (patch from - https://drupal.org/node/2107417#comment-7945999) configuration 4.x supplied with the module 'search_api_solr', in case if this information could be relevant to the issue.

This may be a relevant issue with the module addressing it: https://drupal.org/project/autocomplete_hack. Haven't checked if it helps in the line of this thread as had to change my configuration already, although this outlines some existing 'slash' issues with core autocomplete.

A similar issue occurs on my site but then with the + sign.
Is there a way to filter out these specials characters?

drunken monkey’s picture

Still cannot reproduce. Have you tried with the latest module version?

i have a search term called i-strategi, but when i type i-s i get no suggestions? it simply ignores all special characters! everything else works great! except it absolutely ignores my settings regarding to what fields i want to have autosuggested .. i have chosen the title and terms, yet i get autosuggestions from phonenumber, address etc.. i have set it to only suggest those fields i mentioned , but it ignores the rules (we've got us selves a rebel over here!).. so yeah that's the 2 problems im experiencing with the module - otherwise GREAT MODULE - LOVE IT !!!!!!!

Oh yeah this is another issue, but my words only gets highlighted in title? if the searchword matches a word in my body, it does NOT highlight :/

That's not just a completely different problems – that's three completely different problems. Please make sure you are using the latest module version and then either find or create appropriate issues for all three problems.

Ok. here it comes, no laughing please. The webserver used is IIS7 on windows server 2008 R2. IIS has a security service "Request filtering". This service filters the + sign out of the URL request (see this IIS blog). This is why the 404 error is returned. So for me, this issue is closed.

So I came across this thread while searching for an issue where search auto complete's failed with 404 error due to a period in the query. After much troubleshooting I discovered the issue manifests due to an issue with the Fast 404 module. I'm sure someone else will one day use a combination of search api autocomplete, fast 404 and find this thread in their hunt for a solution. You can find a solution here https://www.drupal.org/node/1975016 that will resolve issues with periods in the query.
