Unable to index file entities

Can you please describe in a bit more detail what you are trying to do and what goes wrong? Are you using the "File" datasource or trying to index file fields on nodes (or other entities)?

I believe this is related to the issue I'm seeing. When trying to index a Media entity with a file field I get the following message on the add fields to index screen when the.

The following fields cannot be indexed since there is no type mapping for them:
Document » File (type "entity:file")
If you think one of these fields should be available for indexing, please report this in the module's issue queue. (Make sure to first search for an existing issue for this field.) Please note that entity-valued fields generally can be indexed by either indexing their parent reference field, or their child entity ID field.

Although this may be more related to the search_api_attachments module I haven't had a chance to look further in to it yet.

@Drunken monkey can you elaborate ? Does that mean it can be achieved by indexing the file UUID, UID or FID ?

If by not being indexed you are meaning the file entities are showing up in the search results listing, I too am having this issue.

No, that’s something differently. At least I think so – no-one here has yet explained what exactly they’re trying to do.
