I've found that the return destination is reset after 'save and edit' is chosen, and the form is shown in node view by default.

For example:

  • User is viewing a list of content.
  • User goes in to edit item of content.
  • While in edit form - user selects 'save and edit'.
  • User completes edit.
  • User selects 'save'.
  • User would expect to return to list of content.. however the user is shown the node view instead.

Any advice appreciated.

I'm afraid this is by design. Nevertheless I found this issue because I need to return to the list instead of the node view after clicking the save button.

Perhaps you can use rules (http://drupal.org/project/rules) or purl (http://drupal.org/project/purl)? Just brainstorming.
