Thank you for the patch.
Please check the 8.x-4.x branch, which is in the process of purging all deprecated code.
I don't plan to continue support for 8.x-3.x branch into Drupal 9, so I think it's moot for this branch.

If you're interested in helping drive new feature development, please hop on the 4.x branch!
