Conditional rewrite field

I was needing a module that could rewrite the output of a field conditionally, based on the terms of taxonomy. Example: If the taxonomy term 'unknown birthplace' is present, then the text field Birthplace would be rewritten with a question mark, like 'India?'.
This feature request would also need the possibility of multiple conditions and rewrites of the same field (meaning that for different terms maybe different rewrites are needed).

Maybe this request makes this module drift too far from the original intent...
