Write update functions for replication_settings schema change and additional configs

Coming from an older version of the module it is impossible to update unless I write my own hook_update_N implementation to add the schema and config changes from the config/ folder. If you broke the backwards compatibility on purpose because of the modules development status, would you give me a hint as to how to easily import and apply the added yaml files on my own?
