Problem with the thumbs up widget when inserting it with code onto a .tpl file

I am using the following code on my node.tpl file:

print rate_embed($node, 'thumbs_up');

When i click the button it works but I need to refresh the page. If not, it just says "saving vote..." and this text does not change until the page is refreshed.

I do not have this problem on the widgets that are not manually inserted. They work fine. The text changes as soon as you click the button.

Does anybody know what the problem might be?
