when cliked, update total count at custom div [#1243838]

Hi,

I have a button widget with a image only. The count is displayed at another div (a custom one).

I'd like to know how i can "hook" the action of the clicked rate widget to be able to update my custom display of results.

I noticed also that when a user clicks the button, it's still displaying as a button and i'd like to hide it or to show a disabled (non clickable) version.

How can i solve this?

I update the count by jquery at my theme javascript file.
But how can i avoid the rate image being clickclable after a user voted or if he can't vote anymore?
