Can Quick Tabs be used in a custom content type to display CCK data?

I have read that it can't be used to replace CCK Fieldgroup Tabs - yet. However, what if you wanted to manually layout the page, instead of having it display the default field group tabbed data? I would like to manually layout the page using a custom node, and create the content of each tab by hand. I don't want the code to grab all the data and display it, I want to have full control over how the tabbed data displays. Is this possible with Quick Tabs?

I had been trying to achieve this with a combination of CCK Fieldgroup Tabs and the Tabs modules, but nobody can explain how I'd be able to do it using Tabs (I can't even get a single reply), so I'm now looking into how I can do it with Quick Tabs.
