trying to use qtabs in a view in openlayers

I am trying to embed a quicktab into the map bubble on an OpenLayers map item popup (see attached image).

Openlayers uses a view to display the popup content so i am using the following code as a views php field to embed the quicktab:

$qtid = 'map_bubble';
$quicktabs = quicktabs_build_quicktabs($qtid);
dpm($quicktabs);
print render($quicktabs);

this almost works and i get this for each map item on my map: http://screencast.com/t/mJkAvZha

the qtab tabs are Node, Test and Masq (default). Masq is simply the masquerade block and shows correctly.

i have 2 problems:

1. the links for the tabs does not switch tabs but reloads the page

2. the node and test tabs require an argument passed from the view but this does not happen so tab contents (have to set them as default to see since i can't switch to them) are empty.
