Upgrade (3.4 - 3.6) issues - Programmatically created tabs not pulling nodes

I have implemented Quicktabs with multiple levels in a TPL and have I working great in v. 3.4 (example: http://www.tyndale.ca/seminary/study/biblical-studies)

I have upgraded on our development server and I am experiencing issues. All the tabs are working fine except the tabs that are pulling in other nodes.

The code used in the TPL that worked before is:

	'weight' => 6,
	'type' => 'node',	
	 );

the output I get on the site is:

</article>

It looks like it is aware of the node that it should output but no content is being printed.

I have searched around for a couple of hours but I haven't seen any hints that might help.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
