Can a "password hint" field be added and displayed in a protected node? I would like my friends accessing a protected node by "guess" the password from the hint, for example, "The name of my dog?" or "My birthday?".

Version 6.x-1.x gives you the ability to change the different fields. That means you can put your own text. I will also add the label at some point. But what you need right now is done and working.

Actually, I guess that each password would require a different hint. At this point I will reopen this issue so it can get implemented later.
