I might be wrong, but I believe this module provides for a Rules action, which would help me tremendously.

But when I go to make the rule, I don't have and actions relating to Private.

Am I missing something?

Disregard...sorry...see that they are set up in Actions not Rules.

In case anyone else is interested in using Private with Rules, an easy work-around here is to have your rule run PHP code and use the command
actions_do('private_set_private_action',$node);
or
actions_do('private_set_puplic_action',$node);
to make a node private or public.

It works quite nicely!
