Pathauto not generating aliases for any content types

Hi I've used Pathauto with no probs before, however I have a site I'm working on where no changes in the UI are reflected in paths.

Everything just remains as content/[title-raw] whatever i put into the fields, including the default field.

It's running on 5.12. I did find this log php error indicating it was Pathauto itself with a problem:

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') LIMIT 0, 50' at line 1 query: SELECT nid, type, title, uid, created, src, dst, vid FROM node LEFT JOIN url_alias ON CONCAT('node/', CAST(nid AS CHAR)) = src WHERE src IS NULL ) LIMIT 0, 50 in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/meh/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 174.

I've tried disabling/enabling Path/Pathauto/Token in various combos with no joy. I'm using Nodefamily, but just to restrict population of my cck content type to 1 per user, i don't know if that might effect anything.

No expert on all this so any help would be appreciated, thanks.
