populist commentedThis is a large task, but there are a couple contenders - Image Caption & Caption Filter. I really like Caption Filter, but it requires some pseudocode to work in its current form and I am not sure that is the best way. It would be great to work with the alt + title attribute, but that is blocked on #1553094: Alt and Title support for Images in Media Module land.
kmontyAlt + title tags can also be very counter-intuitive to edit for a non-savvy content creator (usually requires double clicking on the image, or selecting the image and clicking the "image" button on the editor). The major advantage of caption_filter is a person can edit the caption text within the context of the body text editor.
I can only imagine the alt text solution would be ideal if there was a UI rendering of the alt text caption within the WYSIWYG editor that also allows for inline editing.

populist commentedI am not sure I saw it before, but there is a WYSIWYG plugin for Caption Filter #1432092: Add a caption button for TinyMCE that needs some work but could be a solution here.
populist commentedThe work here would be:
1.) Modify the WYSIWYG and HTML filter to allow the CSS classes, markup, and general magic of the Caption Filter to happen in TinyMCe
2.) Handle a weird width sizing issue involving max-size attributes that are being passed in from panopoly_images.css
3.) Review patch more closely to see about replacing caption information
4.) Include the Caption Filter module with relevant patch
Let's see about getting this in RC2!

populist commentedMost of the work here is now done and committed. The limiting factors all seem to be with the patch in #1432092: Add a caption button for TinyMCE and there is a more structured list of things there. On the Panopoly end, there is a decision to make around how our media styles (i.e. quarter size) will work with that since currently when you use the quarter size it has a wierd experience.
populist commentedThe patch has been updated in the Caption Filter queue and is now being shipped with Panopoly! Captions for everyone in the WYSIWYG.
ergophobe commentedSince this comes up on search, just FYI, the "weird experience" populist mentions in his last post is #2287805: Caption filter does not work with Quarter Size image format - or with floated captions.
ergophobe commentedI don't know how/why that changed the component tag, but changing back to code...
Oh, no I'm not. That's why it changed it. Code is no longer an option. Changing to WYSIWYG
