When using nodeoverride nodes keep being flagged as having new content

I have made a node override as described in the handbook, so instead of showing the node it shows a panel, where part of the page is the node content.

When I go to view the node it shows the panels fine and the node content as part of the panel. However the node keeps being flagged as having new content. Since I use a node override there is no way to access the node and thereby unflag it.
