New to Drupal so be kind... I have been struggling with getting a panel to pass an argument to a view. I have set up a view as both a page and a content pane but neither method works. The views work fine on their own. For the view testview (http://test.site.com/testview/theterm) will yield the filtered results based on theterm. When I place this PAGE view into a panel it will work if add a theterm in the additional arguments box on the page settings page. If I navigate to http://test.site.com/ node/26/theterm the views return nothing (same as they return with no argument).
If I change the panel URL path setting to: testpanel and put in http://test.site.com/testpanel/theterm I get page not found.
If I change the panel URL path setting to: testpanel /%1 as soon as I save the url changes to http://test.site.com/testpanel/%251 and adding anything to the url yields page not found.
Chos tools 7.x-1.0-beta1
Panels 7.x-3.x-dev
Views 7.x-3.0-rc1

artatum commentedHello
This is how I got it working for passing over a taxo term. It's working for views 'pages' only.
1 - I add a content, then choose 'views', find mine, and in the settings I check 'Send arguments'
2 - then in settings/basics I set the path : testview/%term
3 - in settings/arguments I find %term; in 'Context assigned' select Taxonomy term: ID; in operation switch argument type to 'term name' and choose my vocabulary
now I can enter my url testwiew/theterm and my argument is passed over to the view.
But I still dont know how to do this with a 'context' view. Nothing work. It's been 4 days I'm on it. NO-THING.
If someone can help...

fballdotcom commentedI can not get it to work in any circumstance.
In step 2 do it that the panel -> edit -> URL Path Settings -> URL Alias? Whenever I change that I get a strange default view of the pane. It gives page not found unless the url is /testpanel/%251.
I am not following your step 3 directions. Is this in the panel settings or the view settings?
Note: I changed all the revisions of Views, Panels and Ctools to the latest dev release.

artatum commentedI use Chaos tools Page Manager, dont you ?

fballdotcom commentedWOW (Page Manager), that is much easier than how I was doing it. I got it working how you describe above. I think that gets me over a major hurdle. Thanks so much! I will leave open to see if there are other comments as to why the context view does not work.

artatum commentedHappy having helped you.
It takes me two sentences, those sentences I'd like to find in some doc about chaos tools.
If you're new to Drupal, hang on ! It's the most powerful of all CMS. Worse : it's the dream of my all life programmer.(30 years). I love it. I'm dreaming of it. I'm completely addict, night and day. BUT hello the struggle !
Moreover, I've rarely seen a nicest community: everyone, every module developper really want to HELP you. It's a kind of family. WE love Drupal, so WE help us. But even with this goodwilling, with the searching problem, and all the outdated or missing doc, it's really steep.
This forum is a nightmare.
Yes I'm struggling too with context arguments. If you like Page Manager you should have a look at
http://nodeone.se/blogg/learn-page-manager-part-2-introduction-and-more
and to all the serie. There is also another couple of useful screencasts on youtube. (search: page manager drupal)
But even with this I didn't find how to pass arguments to Views context. I've tried to ask the creator:
http://drupal.org/node/1228610
as you see, he himself doesnt know how his module work, one'd say! (Yet he appears to be a real goodwilling, and very careful man: 1044 posts!!!Gee)
And when you come to these kind of sophisticated stuffes, it's really difficult to give good descriptions, and to be understood. All we need it's a DOC, but there isnt any... Or I didnt find it
pffffff
But if I can help you on other matters, or lead you, it will be a real pleasure. The fact is that you can save days and days if you know the right module. For example, you can cut your head off into Panels if you dont know Page Manager.
(Hey, for it, go directly to the 'builders' layout... it's the funniest !)
If you find a way for the context's arguments let me know ;-)

Letharion commentedSo, I take it this issue has been resolved?
