I recently began using Advance Profile Kit with Panels to create dynamic profile pages.
Main Modules used for this:
Panels 3.9
Ctools 1.8
Views 2.12
APK 1.2
Author Pane 2.0
Content Profile 1.0
I checked in Firefox, Chrome, Safari and the flexible layouts did not work. I had a two column layout with a bottom row and it only viewed in a single column stacked format.
It was labeld left, right, bottom and as I view it using firebug it just showed up as left and middle? I'm not sure if there is a bug in one of the versions that does not allow flexible layouts with APK?
I switched it to a default 2 column layout and it worked fine, so it assured me it was a flexible layout issue.
It may be an APK issue, I'm not sure, but I wanted to bring it up here.

michelleThe default variant that APK provides uses a flexible layout. If flexible didn't work with APK, APK wouldn't work. I don't know what the issue is but an incompatibility between the modules doesn't make any sense.

merlinofchaos commentedThis usually means that for some reason the generated CSS file isn't generating properly. It ought to show up in the source in files/ctools/css with an md5 hash for a name (there's sometimes more than one of these, since styles do it too). I don't know why that file might not show up, though.
Can you check to see if the file is there?

djohns commentedThanks for the responses. Sorry for the delay. I checked files/ctools/css and there aren't any files there. Can I add them in from somewhere. The directory is empty.

Kpetesch commentedI am in a similar predicament. I am using Chrome to view my site. Originally after the APK install the flexible layout worked great. Then I went in and added content to the right column then hit save and update. When i checked in on my profile page everything was in 1 column, now i can't get it back to the original state. If i use a fixed layout the columns are there but I would prefer to use a flexible layout for obvious reasons.
Any suggestions on what went wrong or a fix.
Thank you in advance

michelleI've found Chrome is more sensitive than other browsers to the exact width and will drop the right column down well before the others. With a fixed layout you can nudge the columns narrower until Chrome pops it back up. I don't know how you do that with fluid layouts because I've never used them.

Kpetesch commentedThank You for the prompt response. With further inspection I am finding that after I have saved and updated the LEFT column settings have become fixed not fluid. I am seeing if this is the result of the single column "look". I will update when finished.

Kpetesch commentedDidn't make a difference :(. Maybe Fluid layout is more of a headache then it is worth. Michelle based on your last post it seems u favor fixed layout. Is that what you would recommend. Also this may be a silly question but if i use the fixed 2 column layout how to i resize the columns to be fixed in the place I want them to be.

michelleI think you're mixing things up. Fixed isn't a type of Panels layout. It's a CSS layout type - fixed of fluid - and means whether you use pixel numbers of percentages to define how much space something takes up. I use the Flexible layout builder type in Panels but used fixed column widths because I find it easier for me to work with.

Kpetesch commentedWhen I am in APK config and I go to layout designer then click on the properties
/settings of the column there is the option of fluid or fixed?
When i use the flexible layout the issue i stated before happens (everything shows up as a single column)? Any suggestions on whats wrong or how to fix
My primary objective is to have 2 columns the left smaller then the right. If there are no suggestions on how to fix my Flexible layout any ideas how to achieve this with a fixed one

michelleOk, first off lets clear up the issue settings. This isn't related to APK; it's an issue with Chrome and Page manager / Panels. And it's not really a bug as far as I know, just a browser quirk.
If you want the left column smaller, you need to use the Flexible layout builder or build your own layout from scratch. Or muck with the CSS, I suppose, but I've never tried that.
With the variant provided by APK, the left column is fixed and the right fluid. For me, this is working fine, even in Chrome. But I have run into this problem before on other pages with Chrome. On those, I had all columns fixed and could just nudge the widths smaller until Chrome behaved. I don't know how to do this with a fluid column, and I don't know how to change it to fixed once it's been set, so this is where I'm hoping someone who does know will chime in. :)

Letharion commentedI'm sorry to see the issue not having been resolved, but 1) due to the long time of inactivity, 2) this being largely a browser quirk, in what is now an older browser, 3) a need to clean up the issue queue, I'm closing this issue. I wish I know more about CSS and could provide some more help before I do so, but I can't.
